Palm Jumeirah Mall Refurbished Extension
Palm Jumeirah Mall Refurbished Extension
Delivering technical excellence in a live retail environment
The Palm Jumeirah Mall (formerly Nakheel Mall) refurbishment and extension project demonstrates ISG Middle East’s capability to deliver complex, large-scale construction works within operational environments.
Working as the main contractor, ISG Middle East undertook a technically demanding scope involving extensive structural alterations, façade works, interior fit-out, and major MEP upgrades, all delivered while the mall continued trading. The project stands as a clear example of ISG’s integrated approach, combining technical precision and innovation to deliver exceptional outcomes.
Project Overview
The redevelopment of Palm Jumeirah Mall aimed to transform existing spaces into a modern retail environment that could accommodate new flagship tenants and improve visitor flow and aesthetics. The works extended across both East and West wings, connecting seamlessly with the existing structure and operational mall zones.
The project’s success hinged on balancing three priorities: maintaining uninterrupted mall operations, delivering complex engineering and architectural upgrades, and achieving high-end design finishes consistent with the client’s luxury retail standards.

Scope of Works
ISG Middle East’s delivery included several new and technically advanced scopes for the business:
- Structural modification and strengthening; installation of approximately 220 tonnes of steel tie-backs into existing columns, slab and roof extensions, and column jacking with slab and beam reinforcement.
- Façade and building envelope works; 20,000 sq. ft of new façade incorporating GRC, specialty decorative glass, and a striking circular skylight.
- Civil and blockwork construction; 16 m-high blockwork partitions supported by tie beams and intermediate columns.
- Interior architecture and finishes; 7,000 m² of decorative marble flooring, 5,000 m² of acoustic ceilings, bespoke GRC/GRP features, premium cladding, lifts, escalators, and decorative lighting installations.
- Major MEP upgrades; new mechanical and electrical systems, capital equipment, and power distribution enhancements supporting long-term operational performance.
These works were coordinated within the constraints of a live environment, requiring phased execution, rigorous safety controls, and constant communication with stakeholders.
Challenges and Solutions
Delivering within an active mall environment presented significant challenges. ISG implemented a comprehensive phasing strategy, including night shifts and temporary access routes, to minimise disruption to visitors and tenants.
Coordination between structural, MEP, and architectural disciplines was critical. ISG’s integrated project management approach allowed design and construction teams to work collaboratively, resolving technical issues swiftly and maintaining progress toward key milestones.
Outcome and Impact
The refurbished extension opened in alignment with the mall’s rebranding to Palm Jumeirah Mall in 2025. The new zones now host an elevated mix of international and regional brands, enhancing both the mall’s commercial offering and customer experience.
From an engineering perspective, the project showcases ISG Middle East’s ability to manage high-risk retrofit works and complex façade integrations, alongside premium fit-out and services coordination, all within tight programme parameters.
This project strengthened ISG’s relationship with a key client and stakeholders and reinforced our reputation as a trusted construction partner for major retail and lifestyle developments in the region.
Through this successful delivery, ISG continues to build a portfolio of landmark projects that demonstrate our ability to transform existing assets into world-class destinations, delivering environments where people and businesses truly thrive.
